All You Need To Know About Skin Peels
A skin peel, also known as a chemical peel, a derma peeling or chemexfoliation, is one of the safest and least invasive methods of improving the appearance of your skin. Skin peels remove the outer most layers of dead skin from your face, or from any part of your body upon which you think the treatment could be effective, leaving you feeling fresher and looking younger.

What Are Skin Peels?
If you would like your skin to look younger and smoother, then a skin peel is one way forward. Ageing, exposure to the sun and acne leaves your skin tone uneven, and your skin wrinkled or scarred. Chemical peels simply use safe chemicals to remove the damaged outer layers of your skin, removing wrinkles, blemishes and other signs of ageing. It is the best way of achieving skin rejuvenation. A skin peel also encourages the stimulation of collagen and elastin to improve the skin’s elasticity.
Which Ingredients Are Used?
The ingredients used within the solution that is applied to your skin will include four different kinds of acid: ascorbic, salicylic, lactic and citric. The balance of these ingredients depends on your particular needs. They are all perfectly mild chemicals that cleanse the outer layers of your skin, allowing the healthier skin beneath to shine through. They also help to reduce redness, stimulate collagen, and act as exfoliating and antioxidant agents in skin rejuvenation.
What Does The Treatment Include?
Your skin will be washed and cleansed in order to prepare it for the peeling process. The solution is brushed onto your face and left just for a few minutes. You may find yourself experiencing some slight discomfort, such as a tingling, or a slight burning sensation. The chemicals are then neutralised via a cool saline solution. The whole process only takes around thirty minutes from start to finish.
How Does The Treatment Work?
The ingredients within the skin peel solution are absorbed into the very outer layers of the skin, namely the epidermis and dermis. These layers are mainly composed of dead skin, and the peel simply quickens the process by which they are removed. The regenerated skin beneath appears smoother and less wrinkled. Gentle washing and your prescribed aftercare routine will remove the dead skin over the next few days.
What Results Should I Expect?
For the following two weeks after your treatment, new skin will appear. You will be prescribed a series of steps you need to take daily, such as cleansing, moisturising and applying sun cream, to make sure your skin is properly cared for. Once your skin has settled down, you will notice its smoother, younger and fresher appearance.
Anything else I need to know?
There are several types of face peels. A superficial face peel usually only penetrates the epidermis and heals within seven days. A medium face peel penetrates deeper and removes more layers of dead skin. Deep face peels penetrate even further and require expert attention for a fortnight up to a month, but the effects are typically impressive.
