About Spider Vein Treatment

Small superficial broken veins on the legs, also known as spider veins and thread veins, affect around 50% of people. They can be very unsightly, and can also cause symptoms such as tired, aching legs, itching or burning. There are many different types and patterns of thread veins. Most times these veins are harmless though unsightly but they may be associated with other underlying problems such as varicose veins.

Micro-sclerotherapy is a safe and highly effective treatment for veins, and remains the gold standard above other treatments that are currently available.

How does it work?

A sclerosant solution is injected into the vein causing the walls of the blood vessel to become sticky and damaged. This will cause the blood vessel to close.  Compression is applied to the veins and over a period of time, the vein will heal and fade away.

How many treatments are necessary?

An initial consultation is performed where the veins are examined and scanned using a Doppler ultrasound. It may be necessary to refer to a vascular specialist if any underlying problems are suspected or uncovered at this point.

Up to 4 treatments may be needed, at 12 - 16 week intervals, with a check-up two weeks after each treatment.

Compression hosiery needs to be worn for 2 weeks after each treatment. Modern compression hosiery is very comfortable to wear and comes in fashionable colours and designs with a large and attractive range available.

Costs

- Initial consultation £100
- First treatment costs £200 - £400
- Each subsequent treatment £200 - £300

1 pair of medical compression hosiery is included in the treatment cost. Further pairs may be purchased from us if desired.
