Polaris and Intense Pulse Light Skin Tightening
Polaris is the very latest non-surgical facial and body tightening treatment. Polaris uses elos (electro-optical synergy), which is the first combination of laser with RF (radio-frequency) energy-producing optimal energy levels with highly targeted penetration and results. Polaris Skin Tightening is less painful than similar techniques, such as Thermage or Titan, and is the only system that uses the optimal dual laser and RF energy of elos.
IPL uses laser and radio frequency technology, similar to the Polaris technology but the penetration is not as deep producing less effective results than Polaris. For Facial Tightening, the Polaris technology produces a more dramatic result.
How Does Polaris and IPL work to tighten skin laxity?
The Polaris and IPL elos system generates gentle pulses of two types of energies-the diode laser energy smoothes the surface of the skin, while the combination of laser and radio-frequency penetrates to the deeper dermis, tightening skin laxity from within. This unique energy matrix operating at multiple levels in the skin allows for real results, the maximum amount of comfort and virtually no downtime.
How is Polaris different and better than Thermage?
Thermage uses only a single type of energy (RF), which limits its penetration of the skin and efficacy. Polaris is the only system using elos, a synergy of dual energies (diode laser and RF) to penetrate the skin at several levels - broadening its effective range of treatment. Furthermore, because Polaris utilizes both laser and RF energy, RF levels can be set lower than Thermage thus making Polaris treatments significantly less painful.
Will Polaris work to tighten my body as well?
Polaris treatments have been effective on the body as well as the face. Polaris Skin Tightening can be used on the stomach - resulting in a non-surgical tummy tuck. Polaris can also be used effectively to tighten loose skin on the arms, thighs and buttocks. Used in combination with liposuction or mesotherapy, the improvement can be dramatic - all without surgery or downtime!
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments needed will depend on each individuals skin type, the area being treated, the condition of the skin and level of skin damage. Most patients will see significant improvement following three treatments performed in three-week intervals. We offer special package rates for the purchase of a series of three treatments.
Am I a good candidate for Polaris and IPL treatments?
Polaris treatments are effective for all ages and almost all skin types. Dr. Berkowitz and his trained staff will personally assess your skin to determine whether you are a good candidate for Polaris Skin Tightening.
Are Polaris and IPL treatments painful?
You will feel some discomfort. At the Wimpole Aesthetic Centre, a cooling machine (Zimmer) is used during the treatment to minimize the discomfort. Polaris and IPL treatments are significantly less painful than similar treatments, such as Thermage.
What will happen after the treatment?
You may experience temporary redness, itching and/or swelling in the treated area, but this typically lasts a very short time. Most people can apply cosmetics and return to work or normal activity immediately after treatment.
Should I be doing anything in preparation for my treatment?
You should avoid sun exposure and tanning (including artificial tanning products and procedures) before and after your treatments. An SPF of 30 or higher should be used on treatment areas before and after the procedure.
