What is Sculptra?
Sculptra has been used internationally since 1999 in an estimated 150,000 patients and in more than 30 countries with such great success that it has been called the Liquid Face Lift. This non-invasive treatment corrects the deepest of creases and wrinkles with long-term results using a biodegradable material called poly-L-lactic acid. Studies have shown that Sculptras potency can even correct lip atrophy, a condition that causes facial fat loss. Sculptra does not require skin testing prior to use and it may be safely combined with other favourite facial treatments such as Botox and Restylane, to give you an immediate improvement while the long-term effects of Sculptra are being produced.
How is the treatment administered?
Using numbing medication to minimize discomfort, Sculptra is injected using a fine needle. It works by stimulating collagen production in the skin and fills in what has been lost with age. Results are gradual and, depending on the level of improvement desired and the severity of the problem, anywhere between 3-5 monthly treatments may be needed. Once the desired look is achieved, this semi-permanent treatment appears to last greater than two years.
Who might benefit with the treatment of Sculptra?
Sculptra is intended for restoration and/or correction of the signs of facial fat loss. Sculptra is appropriate for any individual who has experienced facial fat loss due to ageing, sickness and extreme weight loss.
Is Sculptra appropriate for someone who has not experienced fat loss?
Yes! Sculptra can be used to create cheek bones and add volume to a young face.
Is Sculptra Safe?
Poly-L-lactic acid: A synthetic material that is biocompatible (Biocompatible: A material that does not harm the body) and bioabsorbable (easily broken down by the body) and has been used for over 25 years in dissolvable stitches, soft tissue implants and other implants.
Is a skin test required?
No skin testing is required prior to use.
Will I see immediate results?
No. At your first treatment visit it may appear that SCULPTRA worked immediately. That is because of swelling from the injections and the water used to dilute SCULPTRA. In a few days, when the swelling goes down and the water is absorbed by your body, you may look as you did before your treatment. SCULPTRA takes time to gradually correct the depression in your skin. Your health care provider will see you again in a few weeks to decide if you need more SCULPTRA injections.
Is the treatment painful?
There is some slight discomfort but your physician will apply a topical anaesthetic to minimize the discomfort.
