Choosing a Doctor
GENERAL INFORMATION
In the UK, anyone with a medical degree is licensed by law to perform cosmetic procedures and the level of skill and experience offered varies widely.
Inform Yourself Step one is to inform yourself about the particular procedure you are considering, and then to find a top quality, fully trained and experienced doctor. Accessible sources include your own doctor, the information on this web site and introductory paperbacks.
Meet Your Doctor Make sure you get to meet the doctor at your consultation personally. Beware of unqualified 'advisors' who may be dispensing medical advice without any formal background in cosmetic medicine. Remarkably, this practice is not illegal in the UK and is quite common.
Referrals Ask friends and family. A referral is the best form of endorsement. This way the individual who is providing the referral can describe their experience with all individuals in the practice, including the cosmetic physician. Whoever you choose to perform your treatment is your choice and you should not be pressured into making your decision by high pressured sales individuals. Trust your own feelings and go with your instincts.
Fees The fee for your procedure should include all charges for the procedure and post treatment follow up. The fee should be all inclusive and no hidden charges should be included.

Your Consultation
GENERAL INFORMATION
The consultation is perhaps the most important aspect of cosmetic medicine. It is very important that you get an honest, informed opinion on whether or not the discussed treatment can achieve your expectations. You as a patient will have certain expectations of what you want to achieve from your treatment and you should express your expectations as clearly as possible. A trained cosmetic physician has to identify what he/she can and cannot achieve with the treatment and should try to explain this to you as clearly as possible. Stages of a consultation should be as follows:
Medical History Initially Dr. Berkowtiz will take a full medical history of your previous health problems, current medication, known allergies, smoking and alcohol intake etc to ensure that it is safe to undertake the treatment. This will include discussing exactly why you want the procedure and what it is that you wish to achieve.
Clinical Examination Dr. Berkowitz will then undertake a careful examination to identify what needs to be done in order to achieve your goals.
Photographs Dr. Berkowitz will then take a series of photographs. The purpose of this is to record the pre-treatment appearance and also he will use these photographs for planning purposes.
Bookings After the consultation, it is your choice if you want to have the procedure at the time of your consultation or you may book your procedure at a later date. There is no pressure and there is no cost for the consultation.
